Iowa weather: Chance of rain today before brief cooldown

A few scattered showers and storms are likely today.

CHANCE OF GETTING RAINED ON TODAY. YEAH, THERE ARE A FEW RAINDROPS OUT THERE RIGHT NOW. JODI MOST OF THOSE MOVING INTO EASTERN IOWA AND A LOT OF THAT RAIN IS EAST OF I-35. BUT THERE ARE LOTS OF CLOUDS AS EXPECTED, WE THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A LITTLE BIT OF A CLOUDIER DAY TODAY. THAT’S DEFINITELY THE CASE. OVERCAST SKIES UP TOWARDS ALGONA, OUT INTO WEST DES MOINES, OVER TOWARDS MARSHALLTOWN AS WELL. THIS RAIN IS FAIRLY LIGHT IN NATURE. THERE MIGHT BE A FEW RUMBLES OF THUNDER IN THERE, BUT IT’S MAINLY JUST A LIGHT TO MODERATE RAIN, KIND OF PUSHING ACROSS THE NORTHEASTERN PORTION OF IOWA. HERE, BACK DOWN TOWARDS MARSHALL COUNTY, OVER TOWARDS TRAER BELLE PLAINE YOU’RE LOOKING AT A LITTLE BIT OF LIGHT RAIN RIGHT NOW. THAT’S ABOUT IT, THOUGH. THOSE SHOWERS STRETCH BACK DOWN INTO SOUTHERN PORTIONS OF THE STORY COUNTY. SO JUST SOUTH OF AMES, LOOKING AT A LITTLE BIT OF RAIN RIGHT NOW. DRY FOR DOWNTOWN DES MOINES AND ANKENY. BUT WE’VE GOT A FEW VERY WEAK SHOWERS KIND OF POPPING UP TOWARDS WEST DES MOINES AND WAUKEE RIGHT NOW. SO ANYONE COULD BE UNDER A SPRINKLE OR A QUICK RAIN SHOWER HERE THIS AFTERNOON. AGAIN, NOT A WASHOUT. NOT EVERYONE IS GOING TO SEE THE RAIN, BUT THERE ARE SOME CHANCES FOR RAIN OUT THERE AS WE PROGRESS INTO THE NEXT COUPLE OF HOURS. TEMPERATURES ARE SPLIT PLACES WHERE WE’VE HAD THE CLOUDS FOR LONGER TODAY, WITH THE ADDITIONAL RAIN, IT’S A LITTLE BIT COOLER UP TOWARDS CARROLL AUDUBON. WE’RE AT 70 DEGREES RIGHT NOW IN BOONE UPPER MID TO UPPER 70S OUT TOWARDS DES MOINES, PELLA, AS WELL AS KNOXVILLE. SO THE FURTHER SOUTH YOU GO, IT’S A LITTLE BIT WARMER. WE HEAD INTO THE WEEKEND. TEMPERATURES ARE LOOKING PRETTY GOOD FOR CY-HAWK ON SATURDAY OUT IN IOWA CITY. I THINK TEMPERATURES WILL BE PRETTY CLOSE TO WHERE THEY WERE IN 2022. LAST SEVERAL YEARS HAD COMFORTABLE TEMPERATURES IN IOWA CITY FOR THE GAME, AND I THINK THIS WEEKEND WILL ALSO STACK UP WITH REALLY NICE WEATHER FOR SATURDAY. TEMPERATURES OVER THE NEXT 12 HOURS, THOUGH, LOOK LIKE THIS. WE’LL HANG OUT IN THE LOW 80S, THEN WILL FALL BACK INTO THE UPPER 60S TO LOW 70S UNDER A MOSTLY CLEAR SKY TONIGHT. SO EVENTUALLY THE CLOUD COVER DOES MIX OUT. THERE COULD BE A LITTLE BIT OF WILDFIRE SMOKE PUSHING INTO IOWA HERE THROUGH THE AFTERNOON, AND THEN IT DOES MIX OUT BY FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING. SO A LITTLE BIT OF SMOKE TODAY. I THINK IT SHOULD BE GONE TOMORROW. THOSE SHOWERS WILL PUSH EASTWARD AS WE HEAD INTO THURSDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING AGAIN. IT’S VERY SPOTTY VERY ISOLATED CHANCES FOR SOME RAIN HERE THROUGH THE EARLY EVENING HOURS. THEN WE GET INTO YOUR DAY ON FRIDAY. WE ARE BACK TO A BRIGHTER START TOMORROW MORNING. MORE SUNSHINE, MOSTLY CLEAR SKIES TO BEGIN THE DAY BY THE AFTERNOON ON FRIDAY. THERE’S STILL A POP-UP CHANCE FOR SOME ISOLATED SHOWERS HERE. IT’S MAINLYACROSS EASTERN IOWA AS THOSE DEVELOP TOWARDS THE AFTERNOON HOURS. OTHERWISE PRETTY MUCH ALL SUNSHINE I THINK ACROSS CENTRAL IOWA THAT TREND CONTINUES INTO SATURDAY. MORE SUNSHINE AND REALLY NICE WEATHER EXPECTED ALL DAY SATURDAY INTO SUNDAY. SO TODAY’S FORECAST TAKES US BACK INTO THE UPPER 70S TO LOW 80S AGAIN. WE’LL KEEP THE CLOUDS AROUND. A SHOWER OR TWO IS POSSIBLE HERE THROUGH THE AFTERNOON, BUT OTHERWISE OVERNIGHT TONIGHT WILL FALL BACK INTO THE UPPER 40S TO LOW TO MID 50S. AND THEN WE GET INTO THE DAY TOMORROW. TEMPERATURES ARE BACK INTO THE MID 70S ACROSS CENTRAL, SOUTHERN IOWA, UPPER 60S INTO THE NORTHERN TIER OF THE STATE. EIGHT DAY FORECAST KEEPS US INTO THE 70S HERE AS WE HEAD INTO THE WEEKEND. AND OF COURSE THE BIG GAME ON SATURDAY 80S RETURN ON MONDAY AND THEN WE GET A LITTLE BIT CLOSER TO 90 BY TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY OF NEXT WEEK. SO HEATI
